I believe Derrick did a great job putting this course together.
Yes much of the material I knew before from previous Amazon FBA courses I’ve taken because most of the process is going to be exactly the same.
But Derrick did have some interesting product research techniques that I’ve been trying out with some good results.
I also like the fact that he keeps his videos straight to the point for the most part, with most videos only being few minutes long, which is great because its so much easier to go back and rewatch certain lessons.
My Honest Opinion About Derrick’s Course
Its quite good tbh, I have seen much more comprehensive Amazon courses out there tho.
For example, I learned other great ways to do product research than what Derrick shows from other courses. For example, you can do a lot more research at Alibaba not just using programs like Jungle Scout.
You may need to come up with your own way of doing product research, because if you found a great technique why would you want to share that?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Derrick or other members in the FB group had other methods to do product research that’s not shared in the program.
It mostly comes down to who can do great product research and then take action.
Most of the steps following product research will be the same.
One of the main value of investing in Derrick’s program I have to say is becoming part of his private facebook group where you can ask questions and become part of a group of like-minded entrepreneurs that have very similar values as you.
Birds of a feather flock together.
I know for me these private Facebook groups have been massively helpful.
Some of the Challenges of Amazon FBA business
As you can see from the course outline, to launch one product there’s a lot of steps involved.
Although one product has the potential to making you few thousands per month to $10K if its really good find.
There’s so many steps one has to go through before he/she can determine whether the product will be a success or not.
That’s one of the biggest challenges with Amazon FBA business.
How long it takes before you can start making money and not all product selection will be a success despite awesome metrics you found during product research.
Also, as more and more people begin doing Amazon FBA, the competition level for every product niche out there is steadily rising.
Some products you can’t even get into anymore because the competition level is too strong for a newcomer.
For example, when there are product listings with thousands of reviews on the first page, that is usually deemed as a bad product choice to go after.
As everyone begins using the same product research techniques, I can see Amazon becoming more challenging than Google to rank to page 1 pretty soon.
The problem with Amazon rankings and sales is that its heavily dependent on your product reviews, which is tough to fabricate.
Whereas with Google rankings, you can still exercise plenty of SEO techniques to have the upper hand on the competition hence you have more control over your destiny to page 1, which is why I love the local lead generation business.
Building Online Business on Free Traffic
Big reason why I still prefer Amazon FBA business over doing shopify e-commerce is because with Amazon once you rank a listing on page 1, you get free traffic.
Whereas with shopify you have to rely on Facebook or Google Adwords paid traffic.
The advantage of paid traffic is being able to produce traffic right away but its not that great for the long term picture because the cost of traffic can get quite expensive and its constantly rising.
So you end up making less and less money for all the work you put in fullfilling customer orders.
A big reason why I love my local lead generation business is that it runs on free traffic.
Free traffic allows you to build an online business consistently without ever getting stuck.
You can make consistent upward progress.
Which I believe is really important for someone new to making money online, because progress breeds sustained motivation and action.
Have you heard of the 80/20 rule?
20% of our actions produce 80% of the results.
Big leap in my success has been to identify that 20% and make sure I do that everyday.
For me its producing more local lead gen sites or writing these blog posts.
Every site or blog post is a digital property that ranks over time and once it ranks it generates customers for my business for free month after month.
That’s the beauty of free traffic, once you master the skill you can really build consistent flows of income that runs virtually on auto-pilot.
Making youtube videos is another way.
Which is why Derrick Struggle has consistently produced videos on his youtube channel.
He is building his organic traffic for his Amazon FBA coaching business.
Once you see the value of being able to create multiple contents like this that can attract buyers to you, then only being able to create 1 product lisitng on Amazon begins feeling very restricting at times.
There’s a lot of talk out there right now about Amazon FBA business.
Few years ago, coaches were promising page 1 rankings in couple weeks.
That was before Amazon changed their policy on reviews and now you can’t fabricate review like you could back then.
Also it was much easier to get to page 1 because there were far less people doing the Amazon FBA business.
Many coaches like to point out the fact that Amazon FBA is a great business to get into because this company is growing by leaps & bounds every year, showing 20-30% increases net profit which is phenomenal.
I do agree that’s one of the biggest attractive reasons for starting your very own Amazon FBA business.
But it is a fact that as more people join, the harder it becomes, because there’s only so many spots on the first page search results which is where majority of the sales happen.
Also unlike my local lead generation business which only relies on Google rankings, with Amazon your results are largely predicated on the amount of reviews you have.
This adds another layer of difficulty particularly in niches where your competition has hundreds or thousands of reviews or the fact that getting reviews takes time.
The method that is taught by Derrick is to find niches where the products don’t have that many reviews but still producing good amount of monthly sales.
I’ve spent quite some time implementing Derrick’s product research strategies myself to find some interesting opportunities but the concern is as more and more people begin using the same strategies, these niches will eventually get filled up with others doing the same exact thing as you.
I believe there’s still opportunities in the Amazon FBA business. If you’re very drawn to building a physical product business I believe you can’t go wrong with having Derrick’s guidance.
Even if your first product selection fails, as long as you don’t give up and keep trying various products, you should be able to find success eventually. I had to fail through 3 product launches myself before I made any money on my 4th launch. A lot of people get stuck at product research but my advice is to value taking action on launching new products as your primary focus.
Think of it this way, starting a physical product business has never been cheaper & easier compared to any other time in human history.
Don’t be afraid to fail. Its better to take action, fail fast so that you can learn fast.
When the going gets tough, its majorly helpful to have that mentor to push you along or belong to a community (FB group) that’ll continue to inspire & motivate you.
Having a mentor that’s been there and done it, is the fast track to your success.
Why I still love the local lead generation business
My bread and butter is still local lead generation because unlike Amazon where for every product you have to compete with people globally for that limited 10 spots on the first page, with local lead gen, all you have to beat is like 10-20 local companies in your city. And since there are so many niches in each city and so many cities in the USA alone, the opportunities are endless.
Once you got the formula to beat people in the Google search rankings, you can repeat that same process to as many niches or cities as you like.
I have a lot more control than ranking a product listing in Amazon where I have to worry about reviews & competition stealing my ideas.
With Google rankings its just a matter of time before I hit page 1, so I like having a business that I can predict with a lot more certainty what kind of results I can produce and when.
Don’t get me wrong there’s still opportunities in the Amazon FBA business and I’ve made some money from it myself.
But my heart is still with local lead gen as my #1 pick for best online business opportunity. Click here to check out the coaching program for it.
