Herbalife. Avon. Amway. Monat. Tupperware. Sound familiar?
If you said no, then you’d have to be living under a rock all these years to not even know what these names represent.
They’re just a handful of the thousands of the multi-level marketing companies (MLM), mostly US-based, that’s been making a killing selling products directly to consumers since the late 19th century.
A lot of historians agree that California Vitamin Company, now called Avon, was the very first network marketing company in the world.
Avon was started in 1886 in Manhattan, New York by a struggling door-to-door salesman named David H. McConnell.
First selling toiletries, Avon has now expanded to 100 countries and sells every product from jewelry, cosmetics, fashion, nutrition supplement, among others. Its 2018 revenues amounted to US$5+ billion.
Avon strictly uses the multi-level marketing method of selling and now boasts 6 million representatives, the former “Avon ladies” which has now expanded to include men.
It’s important to look much deeper into these MLM companies, do your due diligence.
You want a company that’s still active today and growing!
For example, as of May 2019, Brazilian company Natura merged with Avon which makes this beauty care behemoth capture an even bigger chunk of the wellness market.
100+ years old and Avon is still growing.
The Avon-Naura merger is set to unlock more than US$1 Billion in value for all its shareholders.
As a result of the merger news, Avon shares increased 6%, its highest level in two years.

MLM is a good business model but it hasn’t made me a lot of cash…so I moved on to something better.
Lead generation is like MLM on steroids, you make money hand over first because it uses one more element that MLM hasn’t yet tapped: search engine optimization.
If you truly want financial freedom, you should get out of your comfort zone and see how you measure up against the marketing big guns.
The online training program I joined back in 2014 has afforded me a worry-free lifestyle I could never have imagined back when I was working a typical 9-to-5 gig.

What is Multi-Level Marketing?
Multi-level marketing (MLM) or network marketing is a business strategy for selling products or services.
The MLM company’s income comes from a non-salaried workforce, distributing the firm’s commodities as associates or representatives.
MLMs get creative about how they call their workers: distributors, agents, personal representatives, partners, the list could go on.
MLMs usually expand through the process of recruitment whereby earlier participants draft new members and get compensated by the sales of their men who are lower on the MLM company’s totem pole.
The newest recruits are expected to meet their product quota by a certain timeline, selling products directly to retail consumers through word of mouth or familiarity.
Relationships mean big points, so well-connected individuals thrive well in the MLM industry.
Each MLM company craft their own unique benefit plan whether in cash or product points. Most go by the pyramid system
This business model represent nearly $30 billion in U.S. sales annually, employing tens of millions of Americans as independent salespeople.
Usually there’s an entry level distributor kit ranging on average couple hundred dollars that you must purchase to become a distributor.
Then you can start earning commission by direct selling the products to your friends & family & anybody else you can manage to sell to.
If you join an MLM network, get busy recruiting distributors yourself which becomes part of your “team” or “downline.”
That’s when you start earning bonuses on the products your distributors sell and their distributors, and it goes down multiple levels depending on the compensation plan of the company you joined.
It’s no wonder that the more distributors you’ve recruited, the more leveraged income you rake in based on your team’s effort.

Have you ever wondered which one among the hundreds of network marketing companies you see on your newsfeed everyday truly rakes in the dollars?
Well, wonder no more. I’ve done extra legwork to make things easier for you, combing through MLM databases to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Here’s the list of 2019’s top 50 global network marketing firms that raked in the highest revenues in 2018.
How to Check if an MLM Company is Solid
Companies that are trending in the right direction is a good sign. Here’s how I check.
I used Google.com/trends to look up these companies and check their popularity over the years, it basically shows the search volume of the company name since 2004.
If it’s going up, that’s a clear indicator that it’s picking up steam, which is what you want.
Even if the results display a consistent level of search volume since 2004, that’s a good sign as well.
What you see a lot is this pattern, a sharp rise when the company first came into the market, then slow decline in popularity over the years, obviously might be an indicator of becoming over-saturated.
But sometimes you can find companies that are still trending up.
Or remaining consistent, which indicates that it’s enduring and sells great products.
But watch out! Steer away from joining MLM companies with trends that display this. . .
At the end of the day, it’s your personal reputation as an individual that you plan to link up with a company, so pull out all stops to do your due diligence and research, research, research.
You don’t want to end up victimized and thousands of dollars poorer like those women who joined LulaRoe and got tricked into buying $6,000 worth of initial inventory, most of which are unattractive leggings that are very hard to sell.
Choose a reputable company with strong business policies, backed by ethical leaders, and most important of all: products that sell themselves!
This is a great way to find the fastest growing MLM companies to join.

98% of People Who Sign Up to Join MLMs in 2019 Fail. Here’s Why:
Did you know that MLM business model has a very high attrition date?
98%!!! That’s the failure rate, not the success rate.
That means a lot of dreams will be dashed, bank accounts drained, and only the most vicious will rise to the top.
These numbers are bleak and should discourage people from signing up with the next hot ticket, but they still do!
The 98% bad news came from a report done by Consumer Awareness Institute’s Jon M. Taylor, MBA, PhD for the Federal Trade Commission.
Why such a high failure rate?
Here’s the top reasons why people fail at their MLM business:
- Lack of solid marketing/sales skills – once an MLM distributor runs out of friends and family to talk to, they have a hard time reaching out to strangers to sell products or prospect for new recruits
- Lacking passion in the products – if you don’t have the passion for what you’re selling, it’s very hard to convince others why they should buy your wares
- Failure to develop interpersonal skills – your success in network marketing is heavily dependent on forming good relationships with people. MLM requires charisma and leadership skills to truly succeed
- Failure to leverage the internet for lead generation – there are so many eyeballs looking at social media sites that it’s almost criminal not to advertise on these sites. Capture the attention of potential buyers any way you can!
- The brand gets over-saturated when too many recruits sing up in the firm – this is the reason most successful MLM distributors always say time your entry right. It’s best to join an MLM company right when it’s taking off because once it blows up, it’s tougher to build a team as others have beaten you to the same customers
- Negative press about the company – there’s been some major cases over the years of huge companies getting shut down by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for resembling a pyramid scheme which is illegal, causing all their distributors to lose their income overnight
Why I Left Network Marketing and What I’m Doing Now to Make Over 6 Figures Online in 2019
I used to think network marketing was the best vehicle for me to finally quit my 9 to 5 job and live the life I wanted to live.
I joined Empower Network in 2013 for $1,500, back when it was starting to take off.
Then it hit me. It was super hard to generate leads for a network marketing business!
I wasn’t stoked with selling their products to family and friends.
Looking back, I noted that the people who were making good money with network marketing companies had a killer skill that 98% of distributors didn’t have:
- Knowing how to generate leads online with a blog
- Generating leads by consistently producing YouTube videos
I was out of my depth. But that experience taught me a valuable lesson.
I needed to learn marketing skills ASAP. Ranking websites and generating free traffic are super valuable skills.
My upline made his money by ranking a blog targeting the keywords “empower network review” and other keywords related to “Empower Network.”
This pushed me to enroll in a coaching program that taught students how to make money working from home by generating leads for small businesses.
This training taught me to build my own lead gen sites like these:
Six months after I joined the mentorship program, I had several clients, making $3,000 total every month, and I was able to quit my job.
If you’ve had success with MLM, good for you.
I still encourage you to learn online marketing skills so you can generate leads for your own business in-house.
People fail in business not because they don’t work hard, it’s because they jump into businesses without first developing high-income skills that’s going to support that business.
Lead generation using free traffic, is one of the most high-income skills to grow your own business.
Here’s what one of our members posted on our very active FB group on July 3rd, 2019:
And here’s another post from a stoked former student who’s now raking in the big bucks, posted on July 1st, 2019.
Lead Gen Biz Model Trumps MLM Hands Down
I was originally seeking out online marketing mentors so I can better promote my MLM business but that search lead me to an entirely new business model: local lead generation.
We build simple lead gen properties and provide leads to small businesses, getting paid handsomely for the skill because we’re making them more money.
A smart business owner is always looking to invest in good marketing.
Once you set up these sites, they’ll keep generating leads for you on autopilot.
In my world, leads = $$$!
It’s like building a money-printing machine the legal way.
Get away from the 9-to-5 grind. Build residual income that frees up your time.
