Profit League Review by Jeff & Jessica Samis – Is It Worth Your Time & Money

January 14, 2021

"

Jeff and Jessica Samis, creators and owners of the Facebook advertising agency course, The Profit League, were prominent names in the digital marketing community during the mid to late 2010s. While seemingly having slipped into obscurity, their course still remains a polished and far reaching fixture on the web. In this review, we discuss whether The Prophet League is still relevant for 2021 and whether or not is it worth your hard earned time and money.

Ippei Kanehara Reviewer

Jeff and Jessica Samis popped on the digital marketing scene in 2016 and a few months later began heavily promoting their course and community titled "The Profit League."

The program aims to teach Facebook marketing with an emphasis on creating your agency. The general idea, as spouted by hundreds of other similar courses, is to generate leads via ads, which then direct customers to a clickfunnel.

Their product is polished, refined, and aesthetically professional. On the surface, it's a cut above the rest in presentation (but it comes at a steep cost, which we'll discuss later).

The other caveat is that there has been radio silence from the couple since December of 2018. Was their fall to obscurity the result of a less than stellar product, or is The Profit League a under-recognized diamond in the rough?

In this review, updated for 2021, we'll discuss whether or not Jeff and Jessica's program is relevant for the new year and if it is worth your hard earned time and money.

We'll also discuss how it compares to other forms of digital marketing, such as Lead Generation and Google advertising, the former which I have personally found much more profitable, scalable, and passive income generating than Facebook advertising.

The Profit League Business Model

So how do you go about making money as a graduate of the Profit League?

It is mostly centered around using a clickfunnel (which will cost you, at minimum, $97 - $300 a month).

Using Facebook ads, you'll create campaigns for businesses which then direct users to the clickfunnel.

If you're not aware, clickfunnels are used to collect customer data and ultimately lead them through a series of sites intended to get them to sign up or buy a product or service.

Pretty much everyone is using them these days - they just have a fancy name and subscription cost now. In more archaic times one might have called a clickfunnel a website "landing or splash page."

Like most forms of digital marketing, you generate leads (and therefore revenue) for businesses, who are then supposed to pay you for the service.

But creating ads is tough. It is a learned skill that requires a real sense for what is (and what is not) eye catching and convincing.

And if your click through rate is low, you can count on losing money. Lot's of it.  Either your own money, or your client's money (and that is not fun, trust me).

More often than not, you also need a paying customer FIRST before you can begin running these ads, unless you got some cash to throw around to test ads on your own.

You'll also need your client's credit card information to run ads, unless you like spending your own money. This is easier said than done, especially if you're just starting out.

It's really no different, in theory, to what a professional ad agency does - just on a much smaller scale that can performed with a cell phone, laptop, and a Facebook ads account.

There's really a great deal of content contained in the course - and it seemed it was regularly being updated and added to during The Profit League's two or so years of prominence.

It's also, in my opinion, a very professionally presented website and course, as a whole.

...that is, apart from the 240p cellphone videos and gaudy filters that seem out of date even for 2018...

So what else is offered in the course?

Additional Course Material

  • 2 live weekly coaching calls and the occasional webinar
  • 20+ Facebook ad campaigns (which are supposedly successful) that students can use to model.
  • Some really helpful sales and email scripts to close new clients
  • Additional training on sales techniques and how to close deals
  • Active support (although, I believe this has gone away since they went silent in Dec 2018)

Up next, we discuss whether The Profit League is a scam or if it is, in fact, a legitimate business alternative to the 9-5 grind.

The Profit League: Scam or Legit?

From their videos, Jeff and Jessica Samis seem like genuine, friendly, and well-meaning people. It is clear that they believe their program has the potential to bring great value to their students.

And as someone who has been involved in digital marketing since 2015 - I know what it means to be able to break free from the 9-5 office grind. It has changed my life in so many ways.

The ability to passively and continually increase your monthly income is great, but freedom is priceless - and is what I truly love about being an entrepreneur.

Jeff & Jessica know what they are talking about when it comes to Facebook ads. They have put a ton of time, effort, and polish into their course.

I got into the game through Facebook marketing and have spent tens of thousands of dollars in ads. To me, it is clear that they know what they are talking about.

99% of Facebook marketers, however, don't turn a profit - but Jeff and Jessica did - and decided to create a product that ultimately shares the knowledge they have attained over the years.

So is The Profit League a scam? No, it most definitely is not.

That being said, the content has not been updated since late 2018. It is not clear what level of attention they are giving to current students, but more on that later...

How Much Does The Profit League Cost?

Now for the question you have all been waiting for...

How much does enrollment in The Profit League cost?

Just a casual $4000 one time payment.

They also offer other services you can pay for once you're enrolled (like additional support and counseling).

If you own a successful business and want to hone your Facebook skills (and money isn't an issue) - then I'd say this program might be of benefit to you.

But if you're considering starting up your own Facebook marketing agency from scratch, well... I would encourage you to reconsider.

Up next, we'll discuss whether or not their program is still active.

Is The Profit League Still Active?

You can't ignore the fact that Jeff and Jessica are not updating their content anymore.

They're still selling their course, but it is difficult to tell what is actually still being offered.

One thing is for sure, there has been complete radio silence from the couple.

Their YouTube is a graveyard filled with weird affiliate testimonials. The last update was from two years ago.

The same goes for their Facebook...
Last update? December 1st, 2018.

By all accounts, it seems that while they're still offering the course, but are no longer updating it. Perhaps they have found greener pastures elsewhere...

If you're still considering their course, know that Facebook advertising changes on a day to day basis.

Their ToS is is as viscous as a lava field. What I mean is that the FB ToS is something you have to really stay on top of.

If Jeff and Jessica's content isn't updated on a minimum of a monthly basis, that could spell disaster for their students. I'm talking at best ineffective ads - and at worst - a comprehensive banhammer to your accounts.

This course was one of the best back in 2017.

There is still a lot to be gained, but considering the high price tag and the fact that they're clearly no longer making updates, I would personally recommend that you look elsewhere for the same information.

The Problems With Facebook Advertising

My own experience with Facebook marketing was for the most part pretty successful. However, every day there are more and more people flocking to the business model as a means to escape their day job.

It has become much more difficult to keep your ads afloat amidst a sea of marketers with heavy wallets. It's also expensive. Like really expensive - and if an ad campaign doesn't work, you could find yourself losing thousands of dollars.

Clients are click to dump you, too, on the basis of one campaign that failed to meet their expectations.

You can do everything perfectly and by the book, but sometimes you just fall short. Even with Facebook's comprehensive analytical metrics, it can be very difficult to understand why.

It is frustrating to say the least...

That is why, in 2016, I began to focus the majority of my efforts on Lead Generation, which offers true, passive income and unlimited scalability.

Facebook advertising is anything but passive, nor is it scalable.

The more business you take on (and therefore more revenue) the more work you end up doing.

At the height of my operation, I was working 70 hours a week. It was madness - and it hurt the overall effectiveness of the service I was providing.

At the end of the day, I was making anywhere from $5000-$7000 a month on Facebook ads, but I was absolutely overworked and miserable.

You also have to deal with the incredible headache of attaining multiple fresh IP addresses, as Facebook is quick to ban you for any multitude of reasons.

It is likely, if you find yourself marketing full time, that you will get banned, probably dozens of times. Anything tied to your name, credit card, or address (your digital footprint) will get banned, too.

It is a way of life for the Facebook marketer. To circumvent this, you'll need a constant stream of brand new IP addresses, which means your house will be filled with cheap computers and farmed Facebook accounts that you buy off ebay.

It is a royal pain in the butt - and was the primary reason I decided to redirect my focus towards Lead Gen.

Some other issues with Facebook ads are:

  • Ad performance fluctuates from day to day
  • Ads eventually "fizzle out" and become unprofitable, so you do have to do quite a bit of on-going maintenance to make sure you're not losing money
  • It is difficult to close clients and equally difficult to track how much revenue you are providing them
  • It is interruption marketing, so the lead quality can sometimes be poor
  • High ad costs mean increasingly lower profit margins

So... you can either try Facebook Marketing and sell your time for cash - or try out a business model that allows you to build assets that make money for you.

Lead Generation, in essence, is digital real estate.

It's quite similar to building a home and renting it out, just way less work and, quite frankly, it can be more profitable.

I own a small rental property. The tenants pay me about $1500 a month to live there (housing is cheap where I used to live). My mortgage is about $900 a month.

The first site I ever ranked, as seen below, has been paying me $750 a month since 2014. It literally took me a few hours to build the site and less than a week to rank it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had great months with Facebook ads - but the real trick is how consistently can you bring in revenue. This is especially difficult because over time, you'll exhaust your audience.

The ads become less effective over time.

The real challenge becomes how to market the same products and services to the same people. This, of course, takes more and more time, energy, and cash as you go on.

In my experience, coaching programs still do pretty well with Facebook ads because everyone is looking to escape their office job... The pool of potential customers and niches are also pretty high.

Back when Facebook marketing was becoming popular, before it was inundated by ad bots and cash hungry hordes of the "I wanna get rich asap" types of people, there was a slice of the pie for everyone.

I'll tell you though, gone are those days. You're better off working for an agency at this point.

In 2021, if you want to make money by finding customers for local business, there is no better model than Lead Gen.

Why Local Lead Generation is the Best Option For 2021

I'm currently making approximately $52,000 a month, with less than $5000 in yearly costs, using the Lead Generation business model

This is without a single paid Facebook or Google ad. I did not spend a dime on advertising.

It takes some time to get set up, but once your site is ranked, it's pretty much there for good. It's akin to building a house at the top of a hill. It's not going anywhere. Just needs a little maintenance here and there.

Once the site is licensed, you can count on a customer for life. You're making them money - and if for some reason they go elsewhere (which rarely happens), you'll just redirect your site and services to their competitors. They'd be stupid to leave the relationship.

Remember. The trick is in owning the assets (your sites).

The following tree service site nets me over $2000 a month!

Build. Rank. Rent.
That is the model - and I'm telling you it works.

Did I mention that anyone can do it? Literally, this grandmother is pulling in $10k a month.
